EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT
RULES
AND REGULATIONS
A. Registration
1. All players and teams must be
registered with USA Hockey or C.A.H.A.
2. The coach or manager must check-in with
the tournament official one (1) hour before the team's first game. Each team is required to furnish a copy of
its Player Registration Form certified by the District Registrar. A tournament official will inspect each
player's birth certificate in order for that player to be eligible to
play. The team must be present no later
than forty-five (45) minutes before each game.
Players are required to sign-in before each game.
B. Rules
1. All games will be played under USA
Rules unless hereby amended. The
interpretation and administration of these rules will be the responsibility of
the Tournament Director and/or Referee-in-Chief.
2. Protests will not be recognized.
3. A maximum of three (3) team officials
are permitted on the bench. Each team is
also responsible to provide a team official or representative to manage their
penalty box.
4. Any Major Penalty for Fighting
will result in an AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION from
the tournament.
5. Any Gross or Match Penalty will result in an AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION from the
tournament.
6.
The Tournament
Director reserves the right to suspend any team from the tournament for actions
which, in the opinion of Tournament Director, are not in the "best
interest" of the tournament or the "spirit" of amateur sports. This may include, but not be limited to the
recommendation of Game Officials for conduct on the ice as well as conduct off
the ice such as fighting, vandalism and destruction of property. Any team suspension will result in the
forfeiture of remaining games without the refund of tournament fees.
C. Games
1.
All squirt
division games will consist of
2. Teams must be ready to play fifteen
(15) minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of their games.
3.
Games will
begin immediately at the end of a three (3) minute pregame warm-up, which
starts when the zamboni gates close after ice resurfacing.
4. Teams will shake hands prior to the
start of the game.
5. There will be a one (1) minute
intermission at the conclusion of the first and second periods.
5. There are no "TIME-OUTS".
7. "RUNNING TIME" will be instituted when one team is ahead by six
(6) or more goals at the start of or anytime during the third period. This will continue until the conclusion of
the game regardless of margin. The clock
will only be stopped to set penalty time, player injury or by the game
official.
8. This is a CURFEW RINK. The game will
be ended when the curfew clock sounds. One hour including ice resurfacing has
been allotted per squirt game. One hour and 20 minutes including ice
resurfacing has been allotted per peewee or bantam game.
9. NO OVERTIME in the case of a tie.
10. Referees will make all decisions
regarding play on the ice.
11. Teams must leave the ice and bench area IMMEDIATELY after the conclusion of the
game.
D. Determining Champion
1. All teams will play a three (3) game
round robin format.
2. After the round robin play, the two (2)
teams with the most points earned will qualify for the championship game and
the third and fourth place teams will play a consolation game. Teams finishing first and third will be the
home team.

3. In the case of a tie based on the
number of points earned, the following tie breaker calculation will be used:
a. head-to-head results between tied teams
b. goal difference (goals for minus goals
against) for games played between tied teams.
c. goal quotient (goals for divided by
goals against) for games played between tied teams - highest quotient wins.
d. use "b" and "c" in
that order for all games played in the tournament.
e. fewest goals allowed in games between
tied teams.
f. fewest goals allowed in all games
played in the tournament.
g. coin toss
4.
Forfeiture
will be considered a game played and the score will be recorded as a 6-0 win.
IT IS NOT THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS TOURNAMENT TO PUT
A PREMIUM ON RUNNING UP THE SCORE.
THEREFORE, THE MAXIMUM GOAL DIFFERENCE TO BE RECORDED IN A GAME IS SIX
(6). FOR EXAMPLE, IF TEAM "A"
BEATS TEAM "B" BY A SCORE OF 14 TO 2, THE RECORDED SCORE WILL BE 8 TO
2.
E. Championship
Game
1.
All
tournament rules apply
2. Should the score be tied after
regulation time the champion will be determined based on the "tie
breaker" calculation listed in paragraph D3(a) through D3(g).
G. Locker Rooms
1.
Each team
will be assigned a locker room upon registration before each game.
2.
A locker
room key will be given to a team official in exchange for his/her car keys.
3.
It is the
responsibility of each team to make sure the locker room is CLEAN.
All tape, paper, and general debris must be properly disposed of.
4.
Once the
locker room has been INSPECTED by a
tournament official, the team official can exchange the locker room key for
their car keys.
5.
Locker room
number 133 does not have showers or bathroom facilities. Plans should be made accordingly should your
team be assigned this locker room.
BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS - KEEP THE LOCKER ROOMS
CLEAN AND NEAT.
F.
Miscellaneous
1. As a general rule of thumb, home teams
wear light colors, visitors wear dark colors.
If your team has two sets of jerseys, we request you bring both to the
games. If you have only one jersey
please inform the tournament official prior to each game.
3. The visiting team bench is on the south
side of center ice or closest to the zamboni gates.
4. All players participating in this
tournament must wear equipment which meets the requirement of USA Hockey as
defined in the current rule book. Neck
guards are required for all players.
Squirts must wear internal mouth guards.
5. Team officials are responsible for the
behavior and conduct of team parents and fans.
The Tournament Director will strictly enforce ZERO TOLERANCE of game officials.
The on ice officials and the tournament reserves the right to remove any
spectator from the ice arena and refuse admission for the remainder of the
tournament.
6. WAIVER
- The team official by signing the Entry Form represents that coaches, players,
and parents or guardians of the players understand the inherent risks of
playing hockey. These risks include but
are not limited to serious injury and possible death. The team official further represents the
coaches, players and parents or guardians of players here releases Bowling
Green Youth Hockey Association, Bowling Green State University, sponsors,
organizers, officials and volunteers of this tournament, from any liability or
claim, while participating in or traveling, to or from the tournament.
7. Bowling Green Hockey Association
("B.G.Y.H.A.") reserves the right to modify, add or remove any rule
which is deemed not in the "best interest" of the Tournament. Decisions by B.G.Y.H.A. are final.
8. B.G.Y.H.A. strongly support the
following:
a. The "Heads Up" educational
program
b. "Zero Tolerance"
c. There is no place in hockey for
checking-from-behind and this rule will be strictly enforced.
